gardens & grounds

The perennial beds at Herrbrook feature a wide variety of herbs and flowering plants gathered over the years from sisters, friends and professionals.

Whenever you visit, bring a trowel and empty box along to help with the annual thinning, essential for healthy gardens and friendships.

The Herrbrook gardens continue to expand into new nooks. A shade garden beneath our ancient sycamore features a stone bench grotto and steel sculpture by Katie Friedler.

Another shade garden is taking root
in the old trolly trestle area behind the cottage
where briars and poison ivy once thrived.

There is a place for any mood--a bamboo and willow  nook,
an herb/tea bed, a rose collection,
a garden table lunch spot,
a rope swing, the patio hammock,
and the Elnora Schrock stone wall garden.

A self-guided tour along a marked trail features
meadow wetlands, where restoration
and conservation of native species continue,
as well as a hilltop with a 30-mile  vista.

The natural environment provides for our well-being
and calls us into compassionate community
with all of creation.

Intentional rest and reflection can shape and heal
both the internal and external landscape.
